Liberty Skis was founded in 2003 in Avon, Colorado by local riders seeking to create performance-oriented skis for the conditions they rode every day. Liberty is a truly independent ski company from ownership to production. They have become one of the biggest producers in the independent ski market. One of the most notable aspects of Liberty is their commitment to bamboo as a core material. This was influenced by the performance of handmade bamboo fly rods founders Jim Satloff and Dan Chalfant were using on Colorado rivers and because of the sustainable nature of the material.
Over the years Liberty has produced some innovative and influential skis including 2007’s Helix line. In recent years the company has expanded their production lines and focused more on directional skis suitable for east coast markets. The company is still rooted in their values, however, as they still produce skis with bamboo cores and remain a relatively small company that focuses on progression. For 2018 Salter’s is excited to be able to offer 4 different skis from Liberty consisting of two men’s skis and two women’s skis that are part of Liberty’s Freeride and frontside collections.
The Origin 90 and Genesis 90 are representative of the line, they are tremendously versatile all mountain skis that focuses slightly more on firm snow performance than the wider models. They use a Stealth Rocker profile with long, low tip rocker, but no tail rocker. This gives the ski excellent edge grip thanks to the nice long edge contract and the torsional stiffness provided by the carbon fiber, but because they’re relatively light they still feel nice and playful.
If there are certain Liberty skis that you’re interested in that we’re not carrying, let us know, we’d be glad to special order them for you.
